Book Summary

Riley Sinclair has man problems. Trouble is, everyone has one but her.

After years on the sidelines at weddings, the head of Sinclair Construction now sits home alone on what used to be girl’s night. Her only companions are television, a bottle of wine and a crush on a stranger she doesn’t have the guts to approach. Too bad she isn’t more like the daring heroine of her favorite show Hot Mess. Men want to bed and wed the glamorous Delilah Cole, while rough-around-the-edges Riley is relegated to the friend zone.

Enter the perfect solution - an interactive app where the star of Hot Mess dishes style, beauty and relationship advice guaranteed to transform any woman into a man magnet.
Riley re-invents herself, and thanks to the app, is on the brink of landing her dream man…and another she didn’t count on. Soon Riley’s embroiled in her own hot mess and has to choose between the Cinderella fairytale with the man she wants or the soul deep passion found only in the arms of the man she needs.

em>Between a Rock and a Hot Mess is told from the point of view of Riley Sinclair, a sassy, tomboy who works for Sinclair Construction, and Hudson Parker, her friendly nemesis and head of a rival construction company. The two of them have been at friendly odds for a while, usually in the form of some competitive sport like softball and bowling. The relationship becomes a three-way tug-of-war when Riley has a crush on Ian, a cute, but reserved man whom she has nothing in common with. Riley decides to reinvent herself with an app based on a hit television show that she and her girlfriends enjoy watching every week. She soon realizes that her plan worked out a little too good, and she finds herself having to choose between the man she's been crushing for, or the man who has been attentive, sweet, and a beast in bed. What a hot mess Riley's got herself in!

I enjoyed the story very much. Many parts had me laughing, and it was definitely nice to see a tomboyish kind of character being represented. There are very few heroines in romance novels that I can relate to. But Riley is the true exception!
The sensual scenes were minimal overall, most being closed-door, and not too explicit. Though there was that one scene in the office, but I found it more hilarious than anything (which I believe was the author's intention).
I really loved the relationship that Riley and Parker had. It was sweet, funny, and sexy at the same time. Parker was definitely the better man for her, though I did feel bad for Ian.
For those who had been following Phyllis Bourne's books, Riley Sinclair made a brief appearance in her Espresso Empire series. I was glad to finally be able to read her story.
My only issue with the story was that the ending felt a little rushed, and before I knew it, it was over. But overall, it did present a sweet happily ever after (along with some surprises to come).

Between a Rock and a Hot Mess is a funny but sexy romance that gave me some laugh out loud moments as I read it. Riley made an appearance in Moonlight Kisses and I was glad to hear she'd gotten her own story. In this novel, Riley has to decide between the man she thinks she should be with, and the one who is really her perfect match.

Like Moonlight Kisses, this is an enemies to lovers story, and of course the couple brings the heat when they finally do connect (the office scene was hot). Check it out!
